If you are a beginner to rifle cast bullet reloading, you will find this article very informative.

Most cast bullet reloaders know C.E. Harris from his numerous cast bullet articles in The American Rifleman and the many reloading books written by him.

If you are already a reloader, the only difference in loading lead bullets in your rifle cases is the need to expand the neck slightly so the lead bullet doesn't shave going in. I use commercial neck expanders now, but when I started I use a tapered center punch. Insert into the case neck and tap it slightly to expand the neck. Insert the bullet and seat in your bullet seating die as normal.

I copied a great article by C.E. Harris from The Shotgun News, Vol 52, Issue 21, 1998 - Third issue of July, 20 July 1998, Pg 12 - 13.

I will email it to Handloader.com members free. Just send me an email requesting CAST BULLET LOADS FOR MILITARY RIFLES BY C.E. Harris

I think I got a copy off to everyone who asked. . . if I missed someone, please let me know. As an addendum to C.E. Harris' recommendations, I have used 15.9 Gr of H-110 with excellent results accuracy-wise in my 30-06 with 170 Gr RNFPGC Bullet; .338 Winchester Mag with RCBS 200 Gr lubed with Lee Liquid Alox; and 35 Whelen with .358-194 Gr FN Bullet and .358-200 Gr RN Bullet.
My choice of 15.9 Gr of H-110 was determined only because that is what Rotor #17 in my RCBS Little Dandy Pistol Powder Measure dropped.   Tallyman

Have never tried H110 in cast fifle loads before though I have used it in
handgun loads. Wonder if L'le Gun would work as well. It gives lower
pressure and greater consistency than 296 or H110 in
heavy bullet loads in my 44s and 45s.

Anybody done any work with the 6.5X55? Have a super clean Model 38
I'm itching to try soon as I can get the copper fouling out of it.

Robert,

I noticed Tallyman hasn't been active for almost two years. Maybe Leftoverdj, Txpete or NVcaster, who are still active with us, still has access to a copy?
