Ok, here's one for those who save magazines. A few years ago, Brian Pearce wrote an excellent article (might have been GA or Handgunner?) titled something like .44 special and .45 colt, forgotten middleweights. In it he outlined reloading data for various guns chambered for these two cartridges, as well as giving factory ammo chrony results and some usefull tips.
Anyone know the article? If so, please post the data, particularly the .45 colt data for Colt New Frontier, Taurus tracker, etc.
He gave some common sense limits, and we keep revisiting these "in between" issues, with beyond SAAMI but not quite "Ruger Only" loads folks want to run.
I lost my copy, ARRRGH!

Handloader #227 has a Pearce article on the .45 Colt that may interest you and Handloader #228 has a Brian Pearce article on mid-range loads for cast bullets in big-bore revolvers at 1000fps or slightly over. In #228(April-May 2004) there is also an Al Miller feature on the .44 spl. Hope this helps.
I'm always fascinated by his (Pearce) reports of the killing power of cast bullets at these velocities although I have no first-hand experience with them. YET....
