The season opens September 15th.
License sales start today, August 31.
I bought mine online this morning at 8:05.
I predict that sales will be “Brisk”.

I'm currently reading about wolves, and the management strategies, behavior, habits, and opinions of them in the RMEF's Bugle magazine.

I'm very curious, as to how you plan to hunt them. Locating them, what rifle you're using, ammunition, time of year, expected weather conditions, care of the hide etc...

???

I don’t intend to actively pursue a wolf.
Like the majority of hunters it is more of an insurance tag.
If I happen to run across one while elk or deer hunting, then BLAM.

Assuming that the Courts don’t put a halt to the whole thing.

I get it. I used to do the same thing here with bear tags until they changed the regs.

Good luck!
From what Ive been reading, it's very important that the wolves be hunted, and that hunting pressure governs a portion of their behavior.

Bird season started today, Got my upland game bird, migratory bird, conservation and getting my deer A tag soon, I don't think I'll be adding a wolf tag to that list anytime soon. Just not for me.

What kind of birds? the dove season opens in Kansas about this time, but pheasant and quil are still a ways out.

It would be cool for me to even see a wolf in the wild. I'd love to hunt some of the big predators, wolves or cougars someday.

hopefully this works out. in the UP we have a some wolfs that could do with a little thinning of the packs and a healthy fear of man. but we have too many folks from the city that think it is a good thing to feed them of the deck of their "summer lake cottage" then when the winter sets in and feed gets tight they have been known to bang on my buds deck door wanting to be fed. he lives on one of the lakes year round.

good luck and post pics.

I'm in agreement with Eric on this one! Don't know if Eric remembers or not, but we were hunting Eastern Montana together for antelope. We spotted a 'coyote'
off around 400 yds. I took a shot at it with my 7x57.
Hit low. But in retrospect thinking about the size of coyotes and wolves, I don't think it was a coyote.

Sometimes getting caught up in the hunt one is too excited to note the difference.

As it turned out, I missed. The dog was gone regardless
what it was.

Not much of a hunt. It's on the quota system and can close with a 24hr. notice. If I understand it correctly, only five wolves will be allowed east of the divide. Well that only covers about two-thirds of the state. I know of three separate packs of five dogs or more in the 380 hunting district alone. Lots of country, lots of wolves.

Yeah but my ears are getting bigger and I am getting more hairy too so maybe I would make a good rug.

A hunter took a 200lb male on October 25 from the East Fork Bitterroot River area. Man that is one big dog. I have seen only prints and no dogs so far.
