I traded for this, this afternoon. traded a wrecked 2002 Dodge neon for it. the fella needed an engine and trans for some project he is working on. The Neon was good for nothing except parts so I think I did ok.
Anyone have one? what loads you use for accurate deer harvesting?
Its already evident that it does not like the load I use in my Desert Eagle with the 210gr Seirra JHC's. I am going to try the 300gr Rainier load next time out.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

I think you did VERY WELL! I don't have a Super Redhawk, but my Super Blackhawk really likes 240gr OT Laser Cast bullets loaded over a charge of 2400.

I've got one just like that except it's got a 2X Leupold. It does well with a 240 XTP over a max load of 296 and sparked by WLP...1430 fps...got two whitetails with that load. It also did well with a 300 gr. Cast Performance GC over 296. Just about any decent 240-250 gr. cast bullet shoots good over 8 1/2 gr. of Unique and clocks around 1000 to 1050 fps.
I may have found a new "pet load" for this gun though. I've been casting the RCBS 245 gr. SWC from 4 to 1 WW to Lino with a little tin added. This bullet drops at 250 gr. and I've been sizing to .431 and using White label BAC lube. The load is 17 gr. of 2400 sparked by Win primers and it clocks at 1250 fps. Accuracy (from a sandbag rest) is one hole at 25 yards and I only have to spray paint the middle of the swinger at 50. There is no leading problem. I was surprised that such a light load of 2400 turned up this much velocity (75 fps slower from a 6" Smith) but that long barrel is no doubt the reason.
While I don't personally find these guns very appealing to LOOK at.......Mine shoots so well it'll stay here.
The recoil is mild and they're built like a tank and you'll never have to pamper it. All in all I think you made a real good deal. Enjoy!

i had one years ago that i shot silhouettes with. that one could be it's twin. have to dig into the archives and see what it liked. right now my 5.5 redhawk likes as much h110 as i can fit under a 310 grain hard cast gas check with a mag primer.

I've never owned a Redhawk/Super Redhawk. Big, serious, heavy duty revolvers... Congrats - I think you made one heck of a trade, a broken car for a useful revolver... Sweet!
I'll second that Hornady 240 gr XTP over a stout charge of H110 - it's been very accurate in several different .44's for me - as have the jacketed and cast 300's over H110.
Congrats on making a good deal for a good gun!

A broke car for a scoped revolver....Why cant I ever run into deals like that!!!
Great Trade. As the other's have already said, SBH's like 240's over H110.. I imagine the Redhawks are similar in dietary requirements.

I have the exact same gun with a Burris 4 power on the top. I like shooting whitetails with both the 180 gr. XTPs over AA#5 and I also use the factory 240 gr. XTPs with excellent results on whitetail.

Had the same rig in 7 1/2 in tube, traded for a 5 1/2 in reg RH. My heavy load is 21g 4227 with a 240 hard cast SWC. For our smaller deer in GA I just use 7g of 231 with a 240g. It is really hard to tell a diff with either load inside 50 yards. The only thing that velocity gives you with a hard cast is a flatter load. 240g cast will punch thru and thru critters at 700 fps. I use to think that only 1250 and beyond would do the job. Not true. These hard cast SWC will penetrate deer at easy to tame velocity. I like to practice a lot with what I hunt with and those mag 296 loads were just to much fun for me running 1300+ with 240s. A good Unique load at 1000 with do all you want from elk to deer in my opinion.

Thanks for the 231 suggestion. I have alot of that around for 45acp loads.
I agree with you about the loads not haveing to set the world on fire with speed to work, but im a fan of the term,"speed kills"! It works with varmint rifles AND magnum hand guns.

One can never have too many big bore revolvers.
It probably won't happen this year, but one of these days I am going to deer hunt a full season with a handgun. I have a Super Blackhaw I've been wanting to try with some 250 grain Kieth Bullets.

The only thing I have Hunted with for 20 years is a handgun or muzzle loader. I have more than a few big bore handguns, but my go-to caliber has always been the 44 magnum. second fav is heavy 45 colt, then 50ae. I have a Freedom arms 454 but find the 454, when loaded to its full potential, to be WAY more punishing than needed on the shooting end. thats what I shoot heavy 45colts in.

I have a SRH in 44 mag I have shot little, mostly because I have the same in 454 and did have a 480.
The 44 is for sale and a good friend is interested. My main reason for selling is the SBH that I just aquired
