Has anyone used 100 gr short jackets in a 30-30? I know they are made for a 30 carbine, but they are so cheap, and I bet you could put some speed on them. Probably not something you would want to put in the magazine though I imagine. I'm shooting a Winchester 94. And has anyone ever made a 30-30 load with H110 (just curious).

I'm betting you'll have to use your M94 as a single shot. I shoot several different ast bullets in the 110 to 130 gr. level in the 330-30 and in an M64 or 94, they're too short to feed. However, they do feed just fine in a friends M336 Marlin. he also feed just fine in a Winchester M5 which is a long gone bolt action rifle from the 1920's. You might look at something like the Lyman #311291 cast bullet for cheap shooting. You can even come very close to full power and deer hunt with them if they're not too hard. I forget just long it's been since I shot a jacketed bullet in my 30-30 but it's sometime in the mid 1960's. I've long since amortized my cast bullet equipment.

Cody,

My Speer #12 shows their 100gr. "plinker" over a stout charge of RL7 for a velocity of just under 2,800 fps from a Win M94 30-30.
It does need to be loaded singly!

Mike

Thanks for your input guys. I picked up a hundred of the short jacket for 13 bucks, and it's so hard to come by bullets right now. There is a local company that makes cast bullets and sells them way cheap at the local gun shop, they are fairly consistent in weight, I have shot their 45 bullets from my 45lc, but the shop can't keep them in stock. Especially the 30 caliber are gone when the doors open.

See if you can get a 113gr Bator mold, makes a nice gc bullet, I have used it in a .303 Savage. .30-30 and .32-20 and a friend likes it in his M1 carbine.

You do NOT want to use H110 in a .30-30 case.
The powder was not designed for roomy cases. I requires A nearly full
case or a compressed load to be safe.
Pete.

Trail Boss and Unique both make great plinker
rounds for the 30/30.

I shoot a lot of 160 gr LRN with 15 grs of H4198,
with a lighter cast bullet that should work just fine.

Absolutely. Seven grains of Unique and a Lee 120 gr RNGC cast bullet
won me a couple of pistol bench rest matches.
