There are people who love being in the city, the bigger the better and I'm sure there must be at least a few shooters among them. As we know there are also people who hate cities and do whatever they can to keep out of them.
So where would you rather be, in the city or in the country (plains, forrest, mtns, desert etc)?

John,
Are there really people who like cities? I live in a town of about 500 people, and would really love to move south, to somewhere less crowded.

Well, I only know one person who really loves cities, I just assumed he wasn't unique and there were more of them.
I'd rather move east to somewhere less crowded, not much more "west" from here to go.

My daughter loves cities and crowds and all that, but I figure it's genetic (from her mothers side of the family) and hope she will grow out of it.

Well John, the way I see it, the country has it definete benefits. Like being able to relieve yourself next to a tree without your neighbor calling the cops I would be willing to bet that about 98% of us at this forum will select the country!

I'd much rather be out in the country, but I'm now stuck in the metropolis of Casper, WY (60,000). I did grow up in a small GA town of about 5,000 which was about the right size, as we had all the stores you needed, but we lived just outside of town, so it was a really nice balance. I would like to get back out of the big city environment, and although there are certain distinct advantages to the big city life (I have a pretty large sporting godds store with an enormous selection of reloading components 1/4 mile from me) I think the small town or country life is by far the best.

I don't know if I could say country. But I don't like big cities at all. Springfield IL is around 110K or so and it's too big for me. Even coming from Phoenix that was well over a million, ewwwww yuck.
I'd love to be in a small place like Casper. It's small enough to not get lost in, and big enough to have all of what I need. There's at least two of three gun shops, what more do I need?
Plus a small city will be closer to the great open areas, not destroying them like the Phoenix valley area.

Been in alot of big cities, they were interesting for about 5 minutes...then time to get the #$%* out!. Grew up and still live in a college town. It was pretty cozy growing up here, but now it runs about 45,000...not counting the 20,000 students that invade us when the university is in session. The wife and I first set up housekeeping in a small town of about 160 souls. It was really nice there, but we had to drive 25 miles to work. Moved back to "town" when we started having youngun's.
I spend as much time in the country as possible. I have a good friend that runs a small cattle operation on 250 acres and I go out there quite a bit to lend a hand and to wash the "city" off my hide.
Given my druthers, I'd live in the country.

I've lived in both, and they each have their advantages and disadvantages. I like my current situation best. I live on the outskirts of a fairly good sized city in the burbs. I'm half to three quarters of an hour away from the things only a city of this size or bigger brings; Major League Baseball, a NFL team, four star restaurants, good jobs, and every kind of goods and service imaginable. On the other hane, I'm also only five minutes away from a friends 40 acres where I can hunt dove, rabbit, squirrel, groundhog, and deer.
When I retire, I'd like to live somewhere a bit more rural, but not so far out that going to the grocery store is a logistical planning exercise. For now though, this is a pretty good compromise.

Daniel Boone is alleged to have said, upon hearing that settlers were 35 miles from his farm, that he should go where it wasn't so crowded. I've always felt that way but never lived there (if it still exists). I live in town because I don't want to get divorced again. However, (this is the good part) the wife wants to move out of town now, too! Yeeeeeee haw.

I'd like to live in a more rural area. I lived in a small town in FL, it was OK at best. Now back in OH I'm not thrilled with city life but am stuck with it.

i should have moved out years ago.live in metro detroit
area, now stuck. However, it seems the burbs keep moving
further from detroit. If i outlast the chief i'm outa
here. By the way did you here the anti hunters are trying to organize a vote to ban dove hunting in the southern tier of counties of mi. I'm watching this one,
if that happens what to keep 'em from eventually doing
away with allhunting and possibly even our rite to own
guns.

I'm sure that the majority of folks who post here will prefer the Country, but,I think, people in general are evenly divided as to living in the City as well.
I was born in the big city, but, even as a Kid,I 'lived'for the trips to my Grandmother's up in the town that I live in now.
I sometimes wish to live in a remote place like the Adirondaks or Montana.
But I'm doing allright, right where I am. I'm 2 hours from Times Square and a hour from Slide Mointain,in the Catskills.
The older I get,the more I appreciate it.

I was born and raised in a southern New Jersey seashore resort town called Ocean City. When I graduated High School in 1975, our town had just under 5,000 local residents, and our population swelled to between 75 and 100 thousand durring the summer months....(July & August being the worst) After Labor Day, we got our town back, and it got quiet again. The off shore communities were sparsly populated, and there was plenty of woods and fields for hunting, and dirt bike riding. We had the Atlantic ocean as our front yard, and the Jersey pine barrens as our back yard......then casino gambling came to Atlantic City, and now this place has evolved into one big, over crowded bedroom community suburb of Atlantic City. All the woods and fields have been developed into housing and shopping malls, the roads are impassable year round, the rudness level of everyone here has gone up 100 fold, and it's become a dog eat dog life style that I could real do without.
I have 19 years invested in the New Jersey State Police & Fireman's Pension System, 6 more and I can retire, but I'll also have two kids in college at that time, so I may have to do a few extra years before I can sell off all the crap I don't want to haul around, and pack up the pickup, and head west.
Heck, I'd be happy with the mountians and country side of Pennsylvania over what I have now.......
I told my wife, I want to live somewhere that I can sit on my back pourch with a gun, and shoot at anything I want without worry of the nieghbor's calling the cops, or my bullets hitting another house or car on the road.....and if I gotta drive 10 miles to pick up a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread....so be it....

Born in London, England.
Wanted to leave ever since I could crawl.
Lived in Venice,Fl., for 5 years, but moved to Canada 5 years ago.
Kelowna is 100k, too big for me. Really would like a couple of sections somewhere in southern Alberta or Saskatchewan. (Unless you'll let me back in the States that is), country living for me !!

I live in the country between two small towns. One has a population of about 1500, the other about 1000. They each have a gas station, pharmacy, restaraunt, and small grocery, and one has a feed store. Between the two and mail order, I don't need to go anywhere else.
I'll stick with the country. I spent some time in Memphis and lived in San Diego for three years. Didn't care for it at all. Here on the farm, I can shoot any time I want without any hassle...well, sometimes the neighbor hears me and brings his guns up, but I can live with that.

I've been thinking about moving! I have #1 son 150 yards across the road and a neighbor 1/2 mile down the road and #1 daughter is wanting to move 1/2 mile across the road next door to #1 son. It's getting too crowded!!!
I have to drive 18 miles to the grocery store, but it's been 3 weeks since I've been.
Dried up the cow, so I'll have to start buying milk, but we made 10 loaves of bread today and muffins and cinnamon rolls. #1 daughter brought 30 pints of wild grape jam the other day, along with a couple of cases of Mayhaw jelly. Come to think of it, I have a store on my place!
