Ranger, have you tried porters sporting goods and pawn on
hwy 155 in dogwood city. They see to keep a good supply of
primers and powder.

No. But I'll check em out for sure. I'm south of Athens a bit so I'll see if I can find the town. That's a new one for me.
Thanks for the tip!

Edit: found it. Other side of Lake Palestine in Flint. Looks like a big place. I'll check it out Tue if I can....

Well Lynn I'll have ya some news on Tuesday when they're open.
Oh, and I tightened the belt some more last week as I got rid of the "Rez Rocket" junker Blazer that refused to work anymore and got a "newer-ish" new car. Sorta like a Xmas and birthday present combined to myself. So now I do road trips with confidence and some style. I figure if I cut some spending on a few things I can get by and not starve.
So this shop is on the other side of a lake east of me. It'll be a nice ride. Looking forward to it.

Bis, thanks again for the head's up on this shop!

Yes sir, found a lot that is very pro veteran and pro police. When I explained my situation to the owner he told his sales staff "I got this." And fixed me up. Got an immaculate '06 Lincoln Zephyr fully loaded with 67K on it. Non-smoker, single owner. Oh, it's stunning. Course I'll be paying for it awhile but now I can make those Dr appointments I've been missing when the Rez Rocket wouldn't start. And can make road trips without fear of vehicle failure and in style too.

So tomorrow I'll go to that shop east of me. With any luck it'll be just what I'm looking for!

Found CCI #500 sm pistol primers for $39 per 1000. And some Herco (close to 2400) at Porters. Only stocks powder & primers. No projectiles or loading gear. But that's fine by me. They had tons of primers and lots of powder. I'm happy with that!

Bis, thanks again for the head's up!

Nice easy 27 mile drive on highway. Aside from some road construction in one area, I got to lays the ears back on that Lincoln this morning. Smooth. .........

Wade, let us know how Herco works for you, I see a few people using it and am curious.

Rex I've used Herco for ages in the 357mag, even more than 2400. Also in the .30'06 with cast loads. Bulks up good and lights off with ease using standard primers. And won't detonate like 2400 will in large cases. They had no 2400 but Herco? Hell yeah! Good for me.

Edit: With Herco you can get a real "puncher load" in a mag case and the Keith SWC about 9gr up to (hot & compressed!) 10gr.

7.5gr will get your rounds moving about 1075fps to 1100fps. That 10gr load is close to 1350fps. I think only that "forcing cone eating" H110 can move it faster. But with H110 you pay the price by dissolving your weapon's breach area and topstrap. Herco's a fluffy flake powder with gusto and doesn't do evil things to your pistol.

When I used to load shotshells I used a lot of Herco in 12gauge field loads but that is about it.

I tried earlier to post a picture of my silver-grey Hotrod Lincoln but it didn't work. Guess I'm not all that clever with a smartypants phone huh? Oh well. But 27mpg on the hwy is double what the old Rez Rocket got and now I do it in comfort. The old beater's windows were stuck shut. Hadda smack the blower regulator to mark it work (under the hood of course ) and then it only worked on full. And nothing came outta the dash vents. Just the heater vent on the floor. Windshield busted. And the list goes on.... So a 10 year old pristine fully loaded Lincoln is like a gift from Mount Olympus!

And Porters was pretty cool. Lots of guns on two long walls and counter displays of more as well. When they said they have 2,000 plus guns, they do! As soon as I begin my hoarding of primers and powder, yes, I said hoarding, I'll save up a little and shop for a small carry gun maybe.

Ranger, they only seem to stock Alliant and IMR powder and
CCI primers, but that covers most of my needs. Next time
you head that way on 155, stop at the gun shop in Noonday,
no reloading stuff but a very impressive stock of guns

Shucks, that is the powders I use anyway.

I'll check out Noonday's shop maybe Tue when I go to Tyler for my VA appointment for the lab.

Ranger,

Why don't you go through the internet? I have
had good luck ordering stuff from Cabela's and Midway
among others.
