At 300 yards today, about 53 degrees F. Prone, over the pack:

Three shots on the 300 yard gong, spread of about 2.5" and the 200 gr Partitions were averaging 2612 fps. That first round hit, the gong rang, and I got a big ol' grin on my face. I wish I'd explored 200 gr bullets for the .30-06 long ago. My rifle & ammo did well last season, but I think this load would have been even better, particularly on the bear and elk.

Powder charge was 53 grains of H4350. I'm thinking 200 grain Partitions, at 2600 fps, and sub MOA accuracy will do just fine - for pretty much any big game in North America.

Regards, Guy

My current pet 30-06 will only handle bullets up to 165 gr. due to a 1 in
12" twist. Best load does 2880 FPS with the Nosler Accubond.
A Remington M700 BDL will do 2800 FPS with the 180 gr. Hornady
Interlocks and H4350. Hot load but safe in that rifle.
Where I prefer 200 gr. bullets is in my .300 Win. Mag. With a max load of
the long discontinued WMR powder, right at 2900 FPS with either the
200 gr. Speer Hot Core or 200 gr. Nosler Partition.
All loads mentioned are very accurate in their respective rifles.
