If ya don't mind me asking --what are ya using on hogs?

Probably not the hogs you had in mind - I'm primarily a
groundhog (varmint), predator (coyotes and foxes) and
deer hunter.

My cartridge of choice for groundhogs is the 223 Rem in a
bolt rifle, 12" twist, 55 grain Noslers behind H4895.
Also I've used the 22 250 a lot but I really don't need
it where I hunt since most shots are under 250 yards.
I've also used the 243 with 80 bullets but again I don't
really need that kind of fire power where I hunt.

For predators I like the 243 Winchester, 85 grain Sierra
BTPH behind either Varget or IMR 4350.

Use a variety of caliber for deers in over 40+ years of
hunting. They are all excellent, i.e. 270, 30-06 and even
the 243. The last few years I've settled in the compact
308 cartridge.

Why those sound like the very same rounds we were
using on woodchucks (plus 222 Rem)

Back in the mid 60s when we heard they were going to
use the 223 woodchuck round on people we laughed
....we couldn't believe it .....Thought it was a joke
--since then many have died laughing......

Course till we could afford one of them fancy rifles
we had to make em under dead with 22LR and then 22 Win
mag -- course they weren't dead enough till we got one
of those fancy bolt guns with a scope.... and no fair
cheating with your dad's Militarty Surplus gun he
brought back for the war (or the one ya spent a hard
earned 25 bucks on - those were ok for deer and
bear).....they left them woodchucks too dead and ammo
cost too much......

Those were the daze......
