come.

I thought that we had a lot of rain with just over 12" earlier this year. I can not imagine 30-40". Especially down along the coast where it is mostly flat.

Rick, I was thinking the same thing. That is a lot of rain and the weather folks are predicting rain well into Wednesday of next week.

Yes they will be inundated with rains on top of the
storm winds and surges... Totals of 40" to 45" over the
days.

Even though we were 60 miles or so inland, I grew up in hurricane country.

Let's just say, I'll take the tornado risk here in the Midwest over the "not if, but when" hurricane zones.

Hope everybody down that way is alright.

Well, Houston's no fun.
However, I am one of the lucky ones. The worst damage so far it to my reloading shed, and all I've seen so far is a couple of inches of water on the floor.
Gonna keep my dehumidifier working full time for a bit.

Note that this is my first post. Since I have power, I've spent the day at home watching storm news and doing some reloading research when I found this forum.
That's how I got here.

Hope everyone in TX is OK.   Strange storm in that is hanging
around.   While I spent a good deal of my life in FL I only remember
the hurricanes lasting 1 or 2 days. This one is going to last awhile.

I've been watching the track of Harvey and just like always it ends up
in Ohio.   This was not a very good summer here. I can't recall
seeing this much rain for the season.

And as typical what starts in the Gulf ends up here for a good week.
As long as it's not like Sandy I'll be happy.

My sister, niece and her family and my daughter all live in Houston.
Contact with them and they all are OK.

Terrible loss for many and so very unfortunate.

I read a bit of history on Houston and there was a worse flood in 1935 but not nearly as many lived in Houston at that time of course. I think perhaps there was another flood in 1900 as well.

Parts of the city of Houston are built up in a flood plain. Very unwise planning and zoning practices there throughout history resulted in allowing building in low areas as well as other loose and unsound building practices. About the only thing required to locate any business or housing area was money to build and likely money to feed the city government in order to get approval.

I hate unnecessary government regulation, but in cases such as this, proper planning and zoning would have prevented billions of dollars of loss. The people today are the losers of foolish planners years ago.

Harvey is on the way to Ohio.   Right now it's in the lower half of the
state.   The weather morons have really told us nothing other then
rain.   I'm on my way to double tie the boat as I've seen to many of
these up here.

What usually happens is they get here and stall for about 3 days.
It's a blistering 57 degrees today, not a good sign for this time of
year.

Prayers for all.

Dry as a bone here. And has been for a couple of months.

The west is burning. The gulf coast is flooded.

Quite a way to finish up summer.
