Wade, I don't have a problem with putting something on that you'd expect to be there, such as sights or a sling, but like you said it's all the other garbage.

I don't have a problem with scopes but don't personally care for red dots, never have. None of my semi-autos or full auto centerfires have a scope on now as they aren't needed. They are only used to defend the Ponderosa and a scope would only be in the way.

It's like having a Swiss Army knife or a Leatherman with all the handy tools. It's comforting to know you have them, but none of the tools, and especially the knives, are a decent replacement for the real item. Likewise, lining an AR-15 up next to a lot of other firearms, the AR would be one of my lower choices and choosing it just because it can be decorated like a Christmas tree doesn't make sense to me.

Yes sir, no scopes for me. I tried 'em. Tried real hard
to like 'em. No soap. Don't need no stinkin' scope.
My use of the red dot is limited. Right eye is getting
worse. Light film-like haze in it now most of the time.
Complicates twilight shooting of hogs. Otherwise it stays
in the carrying bag and I go 100% iron.

In the future, if that Hogg idiot don't convince the
country with his foolishness to ban autoloader rifles, to
build me a M4 copy in with a carry handle sight and low
mount sling. Real basic G.I. style. Ambidextrous selector
so I can go lefthanded as that eye is super clear and is
my dominant eye. Least that's the plan. Yes, my M92 357
levergun is my baby, but these lil' poppers kinda grow on
ya.

Simple red dot with iron backup sights.
100% functional and meant for business.

Bet shooting the S.O.'s ammo made it easier at the range
too huh?

Ya, I enjoy shooting taxpayer-supplied ammo! Don't get to do that anymore, sigh...

That was a real nice rifle, a Colt!

Guy, shooting any auto is a lot of fun, especially if it's with someone else's ammo. Having the capability of selective fire and the proper cyclic rate can make a lot of difference in a weapon.

My AR is a Colt and it is certainly no better than many others on the market. You really need to watch what you buy with them as quality varies and with everyone making some version or another the market is very competitive. Quality has taken a backseat to sales and profit.

That .223 is just a passing fade as posted... LOL!

I prefer my Garands too, I have one in .30-06 and one in .308. The .308 is shorter and very handy.

I also have one of their cousins from Italy, it's a .308 also.

Well I took that rather blase carbine out for some 25m
standing and 50m standing & sitting quick target
alignment shooting yesterday. By golly I still like iron
sights better than the red dot.

Shifted to southpaw for a bit to use the "good eye" since
the right one is a little "cloudy". Found I stink
shooting left side. Ironic in that I was lefthanded as a
child and was forced to use right-hand gear from an early
age. Guess I'll just have to get over it. I have to save
up to buy primers and such so I damn sure can't afford an
eye doctor to fix it. oh well. But that's ok since
I don't own any M1 or M14 like I did when I was younger
so it doesn't matter since the AR15 is just a passing fad
anyway. Just ask anybody.

I shoot handgun left handed and rifle right handed.... I
can use a handgun right handed too but.....

It's when I use a drill motor or any tool with a hose or
cord I don't even know I am switching hands till I am tied
with a cord. thank heavens for battery operated tools ....

But with a handgun I KNOW which hand I'm using .......

Ok to be fair I am real familiar with a Ruger Ranch rifle
and a Kel Tec Su-16 .....so it's the definitely the AR
platform that I am debating

But that 458 Ham'r looks interesting .......

Just in case Texas opens ups a Mastodon season.
