That slender young gal is my granddaughter. Fri night, she and her husband went out spotlighting for hogs and coyote. She was armed with her Windham carbon fiber AR15 and Gramp's handloades. They spotted this big porker ahead of em. When lit up it ran straight at em. My little girl said she was repeating her grampa's training. "Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast. Aim for center mass. Shoot until the threat is neutralized. Remain calm when all those around you are not." Her husband said she repeated that quietly a couple times as the hog zeroed in on them and charged for the light. She pumped 4 rounds into the boar until it stopped it's charge. She covered it till they were sure it was no longer breathing. She approached ready and nudged the hog's snout. Nothing, she had neutralized the threat. That's my girl!
I told her last night at supper, she's my new hero.

Good for her!

That's a big ol' hog. Will you guys eat it? I here real mixed reports about whether feral hogs are good eating or not.

Great job for sure. I know Grandpa is proud.

That thing is about as gray haired as I am.

I had wild boar sausages for breakfast this morning. A buddy and I got five back in January that weighed around 75 lbs. each and they are nice for sausage as long as you add a bit of fat in the mix. Around here they are mighty lean. Not sure about an older one, but depending upon what they are eating, should be just fine as well.

Yeah, just a little proud of her. Shows huh?
Her fire discipline is rock solid. And it's unwise to try anything stupid with her. She's polite and respectful, but her unarmed close quarters combat skills are equally impressive. But she watches out for old gramps here. Makes sure I'm taking my meds and eating right. That sorta thing...

Do we eat these hogs? No. They're viewed as varmints and are shot on sight and left for the buzzards. Here in Texas, we're overrun with em. They trash acres at a time and we slaughter them every chance we get.

Congrats to the huntress!

She did well, as did her mentor/coach/grandfather.

Good job all.

Good on you for not raising a Barbie Doll. I teach high schoolers and even in this day and age, it's amazing how we (as a society) seem to condition young women that they can't be self reliant and do things like this.

I'd at least have the head mounted or boil out the skull and make a European mount. It would make an impressive trophy.

Boiling one out isn't hard, just gotta get a vessel big enough and take the time. Mix some borax with the water. When it's clean, treat the skull with peroxide for a day or so and leave it in sunlight. Degreases it and makes it snowy white without making the bone flaky like bleach will. I've done a couple before, just time consuming.

Thank you gentlemen. When I told her that I was bragging about her here, she said just wait till opening day for deer! Last night at supper, when I said she's now a member of badass hog hunters, her response was "Proud to be one and I'm just getting started. That big boy I dropped is just the beginning now that I'm properly armed." And said to keep the ammo coming. All I could say was "Hoo-ah!"

Well she drilled some more yesterday after church. She and her husband went out to check the feeders and spotted some hogs rooting around one. They stopped the little gizmo they ride around in and both got out rifles. They opened up on em and dropped three, with my girl taking out two with her AR15! New grandson was armed with a.30-30Win, but his was a one shot kill.
After telling me of their assault on the hogs, my little darlin' protege [hope that's the right word] apologies for loosing the brass in the pasture. But told me those orange tipped rounds whacked em good! Guess I'll need to get more V-MAX 60gr bullets and load more. Girl's on a roll!

Well down here they're plain old nasty varmints and we
blast em and let the buzzards eat em.

And thanks for the kind words.
