ecarter, Welcome to the forum!
I shoot a 760 rifle and it doesn't seem to be picky about loads. I use 150 grain instead of 180 and it seems to like IMR 4064 with IMR 4350 a close second. I believe H414 is about the same as 4350 except ball.
Mine doesn't shoot the boat tail as well as the plain old Interlocks.

Now I feel left out - I want a .270.

Really, I want a battery based on the -06:

25-06
.270
30-06
338-06
35 Whelen (Got that one!)

Do they make anything bigger than the Whelen based on the -06? I'd love something like a .458-06, but I suppose there wouldn't be enough shoulder.

When I bought my first rifle I wanted a .270 but it was only available
in .25-06.   That was 39 years ago.   In 39 years I've learned the .25-
06 is a great cartridge and does much of what the .270 does.

Would still like to own a .270 but haven't run across one that I want.
Hopefully that will happen.

the nice thing about all surrounding the 30-06 is the availability of brass.

I like the IMR powders, they're my main load powders for long-guns.

There is a 40 Whelen

Now THAT is a good idea

To clarify, I would like them all int he same platform (e.g. Rem 700 CDL, Ruger 77, etc.) so the guns are identical in all respects save for the caliber.

WOW!... a 40 Whelen... I couldn't even imagine it for our East Texas White tail's... 30+ years ago, on the last day of season, with no meat in the freezer, I was down to (or up, if you want to talk caliber-wise - LOL) using the 35 Whelen (for which reasons we won't go into ...) to hunt with, and busted a spike at ~80 yards with a 220 grain... watched him roll side over side 3 times, like a snowball going down hill, and destroyed his whole front half...
