About three years ago, wife and I bought a place out in the sticks, sit's on 18 acres of what was a rock quarry that closed 60 years ago, but it's grown up into pretty dense woods now and is more rolling and hilly than most of this area is. Not really big enough to deer hunt, but I could and since it's rural all around us, nearest house is more than a half mile away, I can shoot on my own place with whatever I please.
We had a modest house in a small town on a big lake that was payed for and I could have retired and lived modestly without working had I wanted too, so I guess I gave up a lot for this life style. I'll have to work longer now, but I think it's worth it and we still own our old place so moving back into it is always an option.
Nice to have a place like this. I hope you enjoy it.

I generally pass through WV quite a bit on the way to visit my son in
NC. WV is a state that I really like with all the mountains and woods.
Wish I could come up with a reason to see more of it.

About a 1/2 hour out of Beckley in an area call White Oak.
I've looked for 3 years for the right place & finally come
on this. I'm surrounded by older farms to the south & 320
acres to the north of commercial property.

shooting from the front porch,
Nice find.

There are good backstops here & it is close to 400 yards
from one end the field to the other.

Very good!
I'll bet that hillside is absolutely beautiful in the fall.
Looking forward to more photos!

Nice.
From looking at the pictures, I can imagine sitting on the porch listening to the katydids on warm evenings or crawling out of bed to see the whole valley encrusted with fresh sparkling frost on cold mornings. Likely could listen to an old gobbler or two in the spring and maybe hear them flying up to roost in the evenings.
Do you have a steady flow of water in the little creek behind the house?

There is running water on my southern border & to the SW,
the left hand fork of Cooper Creek. This with a couple
others feed the reservoir to the NW which supplies the
city of Beckley & surrounding area. So yes there is plenty
of water.

Lynn,
That looks like a nice spot. I'd guess there is game on the property, too.

That is in the plans. Plenty of room to shoot, camp, cook,
& close enough to town for those who wish not to sleep on
the ground.

I'm happy for you Lynn. Sounds like you will enjoy living in the
sticks. I know I could.
