so why am I not surprised to hear opinions both ways?

That's what separates us from computers or robots. Humans program themselves differently as they learn and form different opinions based on different inputs.

The internet is great for also showing a fault in humans in that many have a very low tolerance of peoples opinions that are different than theirs. I used to spend a lot of time on a much larger and busier gun forum. Over time most of the discussion groups became single minded due to the more vocal trolls that hung out in them, so I stayed pretty much in the handloading room, since it's more factual and less opinion based. Needless to say, I haven't even looked at that site in a very long time.

Since you asked: I think they are an abomination. Never
seen one I thought looked good. Can't stand the things.
When I must look I only look with one eye. They make my
teeth hurt. There's one in the basement & I'm ashamed to
even offer it for sale.

I'll stop now. Sounding like Old Ranger.

Well we can't be having your teeth hurt. T'wouldn't be
nice. No need to
be ashamed to sell it. Give it away. What rifle action
is it for?
Paul B.

Paul I purchased a lite Winchester M70 in 243. The rifle
was in a thumb hole stock but he also had the factory
stock which the barrel action is now in. I've laid off
selling the stock on a local trading board. Guess I
could sell it on the web but just to lazy I guess to box
it. The stock is in good shape. Do you need it?
