The Uberti 1851 Colt Navy was delivered on Friday. It is my first Uberti,
and fit and finish are very good. I am going to start collecting up
supplies to start shooting it like a snail capper and a powder flask. I
can't find black powder or American Pioneer powder anywhere local,
only Pyrodex P, but this revolver will never see Pyrodex. If I can't get
either on a trip to northern New Hampshire, I will have to order and pay
the hazmat fee.

For cleaning I think I will go with the 10:1 water/Ballistol mix, and then a
light coating of straight Ballistol for storage and corrosion protection.

In a pinch the pyrodex works, if it comes down to no BP or using Pyrodex then the choice is obvious.

There are some pretty easy recipes for making your own black powder, the key being small batches and being careful.

The last time I bought any BP, two other guys and I went in together and bought in bulk, it seems like we got that from a wholesaler in New Hampshire.

I used to have the name and address, but all of that was on a computer I junked after putting a couple of AP rounds through the hard drive.

If you can find Goex, that is a pretty good choice.

Hope you get to do some shooting soon, and let us know how it works out..j
