Obviously living out in the sticks you have to deal with critters. When I bought this 28 acres I also bought a prairie dog town. It took a 1 1\2 years and 200 rounds of ammo and the prairie dogs are gone. The rabbits have been a pain in the ass. I used to let them be but its just a matter of time before there digging under the outhouse or cabin. So if I see a rabbit I shoot it. I`ve shot a few coyotes but they pretty much stay away from the cabin. Killed a couple badgers as I don`t wan`t them hanging around, those things are scary.
There`s a lone wolf that passes through every few weeks. Of course there`s the deer and antelope and a the occasional elk.
It`s amazing what you see when you live in the sticks.
You guys who live in the sticks whats your critter problem and what passes through?

Only two that get shot at when seen on my place; coyotes and raccoons. Possums get a pass. I hunt squirrels. I enjoy watching the bunnys and they aren't causing a problem yet, so I leave them be, plus I never cared for the taste of them much. Eventually, I'll take a deer or two off this place, just haven't yet. We watch the does and fawns, so it'll have to be a buck, I know there's one that comes through, he just must do it at night.

Feral dogs are the bain of my existence.
I haven't quite yet taken to decorating
the fence posts with their heads but it
isn't out of the question. Wolves and
coyotes can be an issue and the yotes get
the same treatment as the feral dogs but
are less common, less troublesome, less
obnoxious, and slightly more respectable
being a proper wild critter.

Why can't people take care of their pets
instead of letting them run wild and cause
havock going after the chickens, sheep,
goats, lamas, and sometimes even innocent
people. Part just left to run wild going
back to their bad owners every once in a
while, many abandoned, and a whole lot
from multiplication born wild from feral
stock.

Hogs, coyote, snakes, armadillos, and skunks are shot on
sight in my woods. The deer, squirrels, rabbits,
raccoons, possums, all birds, foxes, and such are
protected here. I feed them all and have had deer and a
couple squirrels come eat out of my hand with corn. The
rest still no longer spook when they see me now.

There is something out in those woods that worries me. In
the past 6 months I've lost two of my dogs to something
out there. Both were big and strong dogs that had taken
on big hogs in the past. They both disappeared without a
trace. No tracks. No sign. Yeah, there's something out
there that's brutal. If I find it I WILL kill it with
extreme prejudice. My little outpost is on alert.

Rancher buddy of mine has a beautiful tanned Irish Setter hide on a bench in his home...

It was running his cattle. Was.
