It's the second Saturday of the month and the RCSO range
will be open for the public.
I'm going to take my 30/30 with three different loads, one
" mouse fart" load of 5 gr. BE w/ Lee 160 gr cast, one 32
gr. H380 w/ 165 gr Ranch Dog bullets and another of 35 gr
IMR 4895 w/ 160 gr cast Lee bullets,unsized.
For my 9mm I have 50 120 gr TC cast w/ .5cc Green Dot, 50
w/ the same bullet and 4 gr. BE, and another 50, same
bullet and 5 gr True Blue. These are sized to .358, so I'm
expecting a bit of trouble from my CZ. The Ruger will
shoot them without a hitch. It's gonna be HOT, so if I
have problems, I'll shoot them in the ruger. I'm slowly
using up my previously loaded rounds and my current loads
are sized to .357.
I'm also going to take my 22/45. I haven't fired it in a
number of years.Cancer will do that for you. It looks
brand new.I hate to see it languish in it's factory box
while the others get to go on trips to the range.

I had some trouble with the CZ as I expected. It just
can't handle the .358 sized bullets. As to the 30/30, the
mouse fart loads all grouped about 2" high and one ragged
hole @ 25 yards w/ an improvised rest. The IMR 4895 pretty
much beat me to death, it felt like I was shooting 4350..
I didn't shoot all of them, I was there to enjoy, not
torture. The H380 loads were a bit stout, but not as stout
as the other. They all shot beautiful groups. My pistol
shooting skills have gone south quickly. Not much to say
except that they were all on the paper, some better than
others, but nothing to garner a trophy.

The man that is ( or was) the gunsmith for the SO asked if
he could rechamber my 30/30 to 30/30 A.I. That's been a
dream of mine for the last 15 years or so. He wants to do
it no charge. I've seen some of his work and it's
beautiful. How could I refuse?

Tom I have to shoot a handgun every week to even stay
mediocre so don't feel bad. They tell me the 30/30 AI is
the cats meow.

My CZ handles .358 just fine but neither of my MP Smiths
will.

I had loaded the rounds to shoot from the LC9S pro and
the Glock 19 that I had. They would shoot anything.

Several years ago I had my Ruger #1b rechambered to 30-06
A.I. It shoots 180gr. Serria Gamekings exceptionally
well, and 165-168gr very well. It also does cast bullets
without a hitch or leading. I'm hoping the 30/30 will
follow suit.....

I have a CZ 75 and a clone both shoot very well with .358 bullets.

The .30-30, it is hard to find a load that doesn't work well.

My favorite load in the .30-30 was the 170 grn., cast GC bullet, cast out of wheel weight metal, over 30 grn of 3031. I took my rifle and a 20 rnd box of ammo, and hiked around the hayfields in upper NE part to NY, I killed 18 woodchucks before I missed one.

I carried the same load in my 94 Winchester hunting moose in Alaska.

A friend of mine who was a bit recoil sensitive, was not getting on well with factory ammunition in his .30-30. I loaded him a box of the 100 grn half jacket "plinker" bullets over 7 grn of Unique. His shooting immediately improved, and the wood chuck population in his neighborhood declined.. :)
