If you look at the historical record as a species, over the last 20 thousand years we have eaten more caribou than anything else.

During the early territorial days the caribou herds in Alaska were estimated in the millions.

Moose, Elk, Caribou, White Tail, Mule Deer, they are all deer.

When you go someplace for a meal, a lot of what makes for a memorable occasion is not the food but the "ambiance".

Some of the best venison I ever ate, was a piece skewered on a stick over an open fire, with friends hunkered down in a spruce thick on Kodiak Island, after a day of hunting in the rain and snow.

Yup, after a hard day hot food back in
camp tastes better then the same exact
meat prepared in the same way back at
home.

That said the best wild meat I have ever
eaten was a big fat cow elk who had gotten
habitualized to raiding an apple and pear
orchard of a family I know. Usually elk
have a wide range and don't stay in any
one area, but that one had a lame front
leg and the herd had left her behind and
she had taken up local solo residence in
the bottom land and I'm sure eating off
the surrounding farm fields and possibly
raiding cattle feeders in the area as
well. Took care of her just before dark
with my big slug gun using their tractor
as a blind.

Boy did she taste good !!!

Bears that have been eating nothing but blue berries are pretty tasty.

The bears in my neighborhood are on a mostly berry diet right now, as evidenced by the bear "residue", it is more berries than "poop"..
