Well Here is my results for this month:

Actually scored better then I though I would with just
using my bulk loads. Was going to try to make up some
match optomized loads using a 200gr. SWC with a lighter
charge that was just barely enough to cycle the action
but ran out of time.

Very nice. I should print off a target and try for it.

Now, where did I put that time off...

Seriously, nice shooting. I think this is a great way to participate in the shooting sports.

Thanks for the compliment, I pulled the
shot on the #13 ball down and to the right
badly with my trigger squeeze (same on the
#7 and #4 balls but not as bad) for a
defensive striker fired auto my XDS has a
very nice trigger but still don't get a
perfect squeeze off every time. I do have
to say though that I was personally very
pleased with the shot I made on the #9
ball. Still have a lot of work to do on
my technique if I want to make shots like
that one more consistently.

You are most welcome, of course.

I see what you mean about trigger, do you think it was anticipating the shot? I tend to shoot left and I think it's because my right hand is overpowering my left.

Anyway, we shoot to get better a little bit at a time. And to have fun... Mostly to have fun.

I do dry fire practice a lot with a
snapcap in the chamber while watching TV
and movies (shoot the bad guys) and I know
from experience that when I try to pull
the trigger too quickly because I need to
make a quick shot before the target is no
longer visible and forget my trigger
discipline the front sight dips down and
to the right slightly in my sight picture
when I squeeze the trizzer during dry fire
practice. So it's a known issue for me
with any handgun and the heavier and
longer the trigger pull the harder time I
have maintaining proper trigger discipline
and not pulling my shot down and too the
right like that.

So it's not a case of anticipating the
shot or flinching because it still happens
in dry fire practice where I know the gun
isn't actually going to go off. Take an
empty handgun sometime in your right hand
and pull the trigger all the way back dry
firing it and still holding the trigger
back line up the sights and then try to
pull hard on the trigger that is all the
way back and can't go back any further.
The result of this will be the nose of the
gun being pulled down and to the right.
The same thing can happen during firing
during normal trigger pull if you don't
maintain proper trigger discipline and
grip profile while squeezing off your
shot.

We all have our issues we need to work on
and with handguns this is mine. I'm sure
I'm not the only one who has this issue to
work on.

Interesting. The best part being that you know what it is and how to correct it.

Out of curiosity, what are the rules for these matches? Are there time limits on the shots?

Rules:

Use designated target printed out on a
standard size 8.5x11 sheet of printer
paper at 10 yards with a handgun.

Use 15 rounds and 15 rounds only, one shot
per ball.

Per ball hit even on an edge = 5 points

Hitting in the center ring of a ball is
worth double (10 points).

The #8 ball is worth double points (10 and
20 points instead of 5 and 10
respectively)

If you accidentally hit a ball twice you
can only count one of the two hits not
both, it's one shot per ball.

If you miss the whole target with one or
more shots you don't get to shoot
additional shots beyond your 15 shots.

You do not get to shoot multiple
competition targets and post your best
one. One target and 15 bullets to shoot
at it are what you get per month.

You may take as long as you like to
carefully take each shot (it is a lot
harder then it looks, those balls are
smaller then most handguns sights at 10
yards).

I personally do not use a scope, don't
know if it is allowed or not but I don't.

Everyone is on their honor to follow the
rules (distance, only one target, and only
15 shots, and a handgun) and post a
picture of their real results.

At least that's how I understand the
rules.

Sounds like fun. Most of what I have around here is rifle ranges with the odd indoor pistol range. Next time I am in one of those, I will give it a turn if I remember.

Thank you.

Kinley - this is a match we've run for what, 10 years?

But... STCM(SW) is about the only guy who's been keeping it alive. He posts periodically about it.

I shot it a couple of times. We also did a monthly rifle match and though I shot a 1/2" group at 100 yards, I didn't win! Yikes! Some seriously good shooters on this forum.

I'll see if I can do better about getting out and shooting these matches, I have been poor about it for quite some time.

I tried printing off a few of these targets but can't seem to get a full page target no matter what percentage I use on the printer. The inner circle ain't much bigger that a .45 bullet...

Huh. I printed one a bit ago, came out fine.

Printer settings or something maybe? I dunno. A computer whiz I am not.

No target shooting by order of the Governor here for the past few months...
That is why no targets from me.
