Since the site is back up, I've been kind of looking for some of the regular posters and noticed he hasn't been on here in a while. Anyone have contact with him?

A couple months ago approximately.

Reason, there were some tensions he seemed
to feel with some other users, one
specifically. I'm not sure the tensions
weren't mainly on his end. He got really
annoyed with thread drift, and didn't like
it when another or other poster(s)
expressed opinions in contradiction with
his.

Seemed to me every time he got upset I was
scratching my head wondering why he got so
upset about something that to me was just
the basic annoyances that come with having
to interact with other people that are
just as much stroong individuals as
yourself. But there may be backstory I am
not aware of (I was not the one that he
was primarily annoyed with although I did
annoy him myself a time or two, not
intentionally of course).

Anyway that's what I know of it. It was
sad to see him go, but I don't think there
was a whole lot I or anyone else could do
about it.

One of the reasons I am still interested
in this forum is that for the most part
it's more adult without the "Can't Be
Done-ers (CBDs)" that infest most forums.
I left the cast boolits forum after having
one too many run-ins with vicious CBDs
over there. Granted the forum mods did
tell them to back off to a certain extent
but by then I had had my stomach of them.

If Old Ranger got annoyed with this forum
he should have tried out the shotguns
world forum. The Cast Boolits forum was
way tame compared with that place and this
place at least as far as CBDs is tame
compared to the cast boolits forum.

Shotgun world forum though isn't just CBDs
but straight up Trolls and Tyrants.
Express an opinion other then that
supported by conventional doctrine on
shotguns over there and it's like you
suggested the Pope was just a man and a
fat one at that in Catholic Spain about
1500-ish or so, you had better be able to
outrun the Inquisition or have hide thick
enough to handle attempted live burning at
the stake.

I'm sorry that happens. I also agree, this is the most civil forum I've ever been on, to include some non gun and shooting ones.

Castboolits used to be worse, seems they've gotten quick to ban people over there. Periodically the topic of the ignore feature comes up and I always scratch my head. I have never put anyone on ignore. The way I figure it, I can learn something even from an A Hole, so why would I block what they have to say? I just ignore people the good old fashioned way and move on. I was ignoring people a long time before the internet. I'm opinionated, not gonna lie, but I like to think I can at least try to understand someone else's point of view.

I hope Rex comes back, he's a great guy and I don't recall him ever having an issue with anyone. There are a few others who seem to have disappeared recently and a lot who did in the past couple of years. I wish some of them would share what's been going on, surely all of them didn't give up the hobby.

Ya, I noticed I hadn't seen Old Ranger posting for a while.

Didn't realize that he'd up and left. Phooey.

Old Ranger just took everything too seriously.
Life too short to get upset over little things
for me......

Rex is still alive. My wife is just getting over pneumonia and we aren't as young as we were....say 50-60 years ago. In fact I just turn 76 sometime today.
Still get in a little shooting here and there. Set my swing plate up at around 20 yards yesterday and the first three shots knocked the paint off the plate in a nice little group so I quit at 3 shots, no need to go until I shoot bad and get discouraged. That load was in a .38 Special case and it's even older than me...3.5 grain Bullseye with any of my cast bullets.
Momma has beaten pneumonia, now if we can get her stomach healed up from the medication.
I didn't get a deer tag this year, yet. There is a whitetail doe season the first 2 weeks of the new year and I may get one of those yet. Son-in-law did $7,000. damage to his pickup by hitting a deer on the way to the farm a week ago so the old man better go thin the heard a bit.
I'm old enough that I was able to specify a pie instead of a cake for my birthday this year.

Glad to hear your okay Rex and happy
belated birthday. Glad to hear your wife
is getting better. For her stomach issues
a suggestion I would give is some nice
thicker Greek or Ausi style yogurt with
live cultures in it. Really helps in my
experience especially right after a heavy
regiment of antibiotics which although
necessary in some cases is like nuclear
war on all the good gut bacteria we need
to digest our food. The good thick yogurt
with live cultures (check the label if it
doesn't say live cultures it is probably
over pasturized and no live good
bacteria. It works kind of like sour
dough starter to regrow good gut bacteria.
Just a friendly suggestion.

In one of my past lived I worked on a
wrecker crew. 95+% of automobile deer
collisions are the fault of the two legged
critter behind the wheel driving too fast
for conditions. Granted sometimes the 4
legged critter will "ambush" the two
legged critter driving the automobile by
running/jumping out right in front of the
automobile from a place of concealment
such as comming out of the woods, tall
grass, or corn fields etc. . . But most
of the time the two legged critter was
overrunning their headlights, going to
fast in general, going around corners
faster then their ability to stop if their
is something in the road just around the
corner, and/or not paying freaking
attention.

Not trying to pick a fight or annoy anyone
but if you have any pull with the young
man in question you might point out that
pedestrians have a right to use the roads
as well both walking along them and
crossing them. Maybe it wasn't the deers
fault. Maybe if had been a pedestrian he
would have mowed down the pedestrian as
well. Is there anything that can be
learned from this just in case next time
it's not a four legged critter but rather
someone else's child?

Sorry, just seen so many bad drivers blame
the deer when it was their fault not the
animals and they should just be really
glad it wasn't a human or even a cow in
open range country. You should see some
of the entitled speed demon motorists blow
their lid when they find out that they
have to pay for the cow because they had
no right to ASSume that the road just
around the corner would be clear or the
road beyond the range of their headlights
was clear and did not slow down enough
that if it wasn't clear they could stop in
time. Legally speed is a privilege not a
right and the speed limit is a maximum
under ideal conditions not a minimum or
the expected speed under less then ideal
conditions. You can only legally and
morally drive as fast as how far ahead you
can confirm the road ahead is clear so
that you can stop in time if you encounter
a hazard. If you get into a fog bank so
thick that you can only see one car length
ahead then driving any faster then you can
stop in one car length, you hit something
because your going faster - your fault.

Great to see you back, Rex. I was a little worried about you. You need to get out there and exercise that Swedish Mauser carbine again.

Thanks Rich. We are being taken over by whitetail deer and the only way to slow them down is to shoot does. There is a two week season on does starting January one......maybe.

I need to research what it takes to hunt as a non-resident in Nebraska. I'm not far away and Nebraska's seasons seem better than Kansas seasons nowadays. Any public land close to the Nebraska/Kansas border?

Probably is but if you drive just a little north to North Platte then 30 miles west, I'll help you look over some private ground. Won't promise a "wall hanger" but there are some of those around.

Turbo,

Sorry for the late reply. For some reason, I'm not getting email notifications. I checked my spam folder, that's what happened last time, and my account settings, but see nothing. Oh, well.

Anyway, thanks for the update. Sorry to see anyone leaving the forum; hopefully he'll be back after a little time away.

Also, my brother has hit 3 deer with his car in the last 3 years. I've hit 0 and we live within 2 hours of each other.

Rex,

Glad to see you back.
