Anybody heard from him since the site went down? He was posting regularly up until fairly recently, but seemed to have dropped off. Hope he's OK.

I am still kicking. Just got back from a 10 day deer hunting trip. Actually the trip was only 50 miles from home, my annual deer camp with my Son and some of my fellow retired prison buddies. I did not know about the site problem until I got back.

We had a decent camp as usual. Lots of fabulous meals around the campfire. I did not actually bow hunt all that much due to rainy weather, but did see a few. I bought a Gortex shell for rainy days, but then I wimped out when it actually rained.

Opening day of firearms season I bagged an 8-point and a buddy got a 10-point. Fun had by all.

Next year, I think my Son will get to come down for the whole deer camp. That will be fantastic. He has started bow hunting the last couple of years, but so far has not been out enough to score. Hope to change that next year.

Edit: Oh, my old 6.5 Jap carbine with the 2 1/2 power El Paso Weaver and the 6.5 x 257 Rob. chamber was what I used this year on the little 8-point. The 160 gr. SP Hornandy Carcano bullet took out liver, lungs, and unfortunately, the heart too. I love to eat the heart meat.

I let my Son use my Summit Climbing tree stand as I felt good enough to try still hunting this year, which has always been my favorite method. The last few years I have not been able to manage it due to my back and hips, etc. Fortunately it only took me till 10:00 in the morning to pop the buck, so my back and sciatica problems were not aggravated too badly. I took a bit more care about just where I might end up with my still hunting so that I would not end up killing a deer in some crazy hard to get to terrain. After field dressing, had an easy 150 yard downhill drag of the deer to a Forest Service trail so I could go get my four wheeler to haul it on in to camp. I did wake up a bit stiff the next day, but it was worth it.

Sounds great! Glad you're back!

I haven't been out as much as usual this year, hope I can get a decent buck before it's all over.

Congrats on the buck & glad the old rifle scored. I've not
hunted the first week because of body problems but hope to
get out next week.
