45/70, 375 H&H, 300 Win mag, 300 WSM, 30-06, 308 Win, 30-30, 7mm Rem mag, 25-06, 6mm Rem, 223, 204 Ruger and of course the 22 long rifle!

Don't have all the rifles anymore, but a pretty good cross-section of rifle cartridges I think.

Regards, Guy

OK, for me I've hunted with all of these cartridges at one time or another. Left
to right, .300 H&H, .308, .30-30, 7mm RM, .25-06, .22-250, .223, .221 FB, .45
Colt, .45 app, .44 Mag, .44 Spl and .38 Spl.   Forgot the .357 and .22rf.

Not all rifle but I do occasionally hunt with pistol.

Looking at my list, there are some you don't just buy ammo for at Wal Mart and go hunting, but the only true oddball is the .351 and I hesitate to call that oddball, it was common enough in the day and used by enough hunters, still not sure why no one makes ammo for it anymore.

I like using old and classic stuff. The .30-40 is gonna make it to the woods next year in all likelihood.

I'm a Savage fan, and one of the things on my list is to kill a deer with each of the Savage proprietory cartridges; .250, .300, .303 and .22 High Power. I've done it with the .300 and now I need to get to the others. Oh yeah, won't use anything but an iron sighted model 99, to use a modern rifle chambered in one of those calibers would be cheating.

I've said it before, but if you want to be a good hunter, the worst thing you can be is a serious gun nut. Seems I never use the same thing many times in a row, rifles come and go, and I would probably be better off if I settled on one and worked with it exclusively, came close to that this past year with the 7x57, but too many rifles I like to play with.

I agree. Could have just listened harder to Dad when he told me, 50 years ago, that the 30-06 was the only rifle I'd ever need for big game. He was right.

But then, I would have never met, learned, enjoyed, using all those other cartridges & rifles... Sigh...

Tell ya, reading that book where the fellow takes all the different North American big game animals with his simple 30-06 Rem 700 ADL and only two loads: 165 & 200 gr Nosler Partitions... Makes a guy think. He put his effort and money into hunting, not into amassing a pile of different rifles. Not a bad idea.

But it's been a fun journey. With all these different cartridges & rifles.

I do like that Savage addiction of yours! Keep hoping to find a decent 99 in either 300 Savage or 308 Win. I think that would be a terrific big brother to the 22 Hi Power of mine.

Regards, Guy

I have an urge to buy something in .25-35Win.

And also 25-20. I think both of these have huge potential.

I have been on a quest for the perfect squirrel rifle and for years the whole Rook rifle fascinated me. It seems like the .25-20 with a relatively soft lead bullet at moderate velocity would be the ideal cartridge for edible small game. Much as I'd like a vintage rifle in it, I thing I'm going to have MGM make me a barrel for my Contender carbine in it.

The .25-35 is neat too. Some would probably say it's under powered for big game, but a lot of what I've killed deer with is considered grossly under powered and it handled the task just fine.
