I am going to exercise my first amendment
rights and say in reply:

Humbug !!!

I am so sick and tired of dealing with
drunken nuckleheads stuffing their fat
faces full of junk and being indoor and
outdoor litter-bugs leaving a trail of
decomposing food spilled, dropped, and
crumbed all over followed by various forms
of wrappings just dumped everywhere and
littering the floor including candy and
other fat face stuffing junk.

The endless stream of relatives, farthest
most remote aquantence, and neighbors who
are enemies and not just because they are
neighbors constantly banging on the front
door with more articles intended for more
fat face stuffing loaded in their arms who
expect to be let in to visibly read the
"Kindly Remove Your Boots in Our Home
Before Proceeding Beyond This Entry Area
With It's Metal Grate Floor." Sign posted
and then turn their nose up and march
right past in their muddy boots with that
challenging "what you going to do about it
look in their eyes" then try to play the
victim when I bar their way and call them
on it. Then they overstay their non-
existent initual ASSumed welcome by about
four hours plus and then expect to be fed.
Heck one this year tried to work their way
into accommodations for the night without
having the guts to come right out and ask
but just tried to stay so late at night
and just not leave and then complain about
being "put out" and having to drive home
after dark when she freeking showed up
just before dinner and this time of year
at this latitude also just before dark.

And my woman, love her to death as much as
I do, "But it's Christmas!", "Oh, Let them
stay, it's Christmas!", "Oh, wasn't it
nice they dropped by, we haven't seen them
for ages!", "Don't worry Steve, You always
have extra stuff made up ready in the
freezer that all you need to do is put in
the oven, so they can stay for dinner it
won't be a big deal, you always plan
ahead!". You see what she did there, used
flattery of my prepardness against me.
And then I get to hear the "guests" (in
quotes for a reason) start running their
fat mouths in-between stuffing them about,
"Oh, how nice a man that does the
cooking!". Oh, but this dish could be so
much better if (insert on of the "guests"
female relatives here) showed you how to
do it better as they go for third helpings
and continue stuffing their face and when
they have either scarfed up everything in
sight, or worse yet put it on their plates
and ate only part of it and then waste the
rest that would have made a perfectly good
work lunch if they would have just left it
in the serving dishes and not put it on
their plate and eaten part of it
contaminating the rest with their slobber.
Oh then of course its, "Honney, could you
get some wine to go with this meal, after
I intentionally made up and put out
lemonade or apple cider or similar
specifically because I have learned not to
trust holiday guests with alcohol. That
is just for when it's just us having a
meal or actually invited and trusted "real
guests". If I refuse then she often gets
it out anyway because "It's! Christmas!".
Heck even when I hold my ground sometimes
the "guests" bring their own "Christmas
Cheer" along with them as part supposed
gift to "share" with us as what they
brought but just as much or more so they
can get all liquored up themselves. Then
comes the demands for a dessert course,
yes demands, from the "guests", and the
guilt trips, "Oh, but our children just
love your deserts and they were so looking
forward to it when they heard we we're
visiting you today." (And you say they
didn't show up planning to try to score a
free meal!) This after they have all been
stuffing their fat faces with enough sugar
junk to choke a horse already before they
ever weaseled their way into dinner, or
lunch, or even freaking breakfast !!!

Then of course who is the one left still
standing at 3:00am who actually tries to
clean up the mess enough to at least stand
to be in ones own house. Oh,yah, that
would be me! And let's not even get into
"some people's kids" who they let run
loose as undisciplined spoiled rotten
savages.

New Years is just another week away and I
just have to make it through that and then
it's over until next year !!!

Good riddance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I swear, if I could successfully negotiate
it with my woman I would install a wall
like the border wall Trump wants to build
around our place, followed by a mine
field, followed by machine gun nests and
morter positions from a week before
Thanksgiving to a week after New Years
every holiday season.

Of course I never actually feel that way
when Thanksgiving comes around, it's
actually one of my favorite holidays WHEN
OBSERVED AS ORIGINALLY INTENDED, which I
always try to do but it usually gets
mussed up by relatives with other ideas
and by the end of every Christmas day this
is usually the level to which my mood has
decended. And you don't want to hear what
it will be like right after the even worse
drunken stupidity of NEw Year's.

I hope I haven't offended anyone, I just
really needed to vent. And hoped you guys
would be understanding. Writtings this in
my work shop area right now on my phone
where I have retreated at the moment from
the mob of "guests" still "Making Merry"
in my home to regroup on my own back here
in private before I go back into "Battle"
trying to keep the mob under control and
push them out of my house and get them to
leave without causing any long term
problems with relatives and such. And
it's unfortunately just as many from my
side as my woman's side.

"The Grinch" is currently running a vacuum
cleaner after just finishing "herding
cats" to get all "the guests" out of the
freeking house an hour after freaking
midnight and having to get LIFT/UBER rides
for those too inebriated to drive
themselves. Which means some of them are
going to be filtering back in the next few
days to pick up their vehicles for another
run around. Won't be able to shampoo the
carpets (they need it) until after New
Year's.

Back to work for me.

Turbo-Grinch,

I just read your posts and oh my goodness! I'm laughing! Only the dog and I are awake so far this morning. He's trying to figure out why I'm laughing so hard.

Yup - I understand!

25 years ago I moved too far away from family to be readily approachable during the Christmas/New Years holidays. Now and again we make a trip to see our families... But it's easier to call and say "Hello" on the phone. Much nicer cleanup, and they don't eat all my salmon & good meats that way.

Thanks again, and dare I say it... Merry Christmas!

That's the way I feel about Christmas. We don't have to worry about the people showing up uninvited as we don't have enough to feed ourselves most of the time, and the wife and I haven't exchanged gifts in years, but none of that bothers me at all. Christmas is a time of giving, but it was never supposed to have been a time of giving crap you buy, whether it be from a store, on-line or etc. And it's not a season of "Peace, Joy and Love" as that is supposed to be all year long and not just from the day after Thanksgiving until the day after Christmas.

Christmas has become a season of "getting" which leads to a lifetime of "getting even" if you don't get what you feel you deserve. It's a season of maxing out your credit cards, buying stuff for others you haven't seen in a year, so they can get stuff they don't need or want, and will just wrap it up for someone else next year. And you can't just give cash if you don't know what to buy for someone, you are supposed to give a "gift card". That way they are forced to shop or dine someplace they wouldn't usually go to and someone else will still end up with the money.

Christmas was originally a religious holiday and that is how I observe it.

Well, I finally got the place cleaned up
well enough to go to bed a little before
6:00am got about 7 hrs of sleep got up
just in time to clean up and go make some
money and then just got back now to my
place and checked my email and got
notifications of the new posts.

The lady of the house did stick with my
till about 2:30am and do what she could to
help but she is generally more of an early
to bed, early to rise type where I tend
towards the night owl end of the spectrum,
plus she wasn't completely sober. Good
effort on her part though. Plus that also
staggered our wake up times as well, which
is good after a night like last night. We
usually both end up waking up grouchy
which is not good if we both get up at the
same time. She claims her cat was hiding
from her this morning so I'm glad I was
still out solid, because if her cat was
hiding from her, well that says a lot.

@M700

Thanks for understanding, I like to cook,
but I also like a neat clean organized
house. Which means I generally don't like
parties, not because it's a party but
because of the caos, misbehavior, and
mess. My idea of a good party is
something more Victorian erea with people
actually behaving and good food and good
wine that people partake of sensibly and
savor the quality rather then just being
gluttons and drunkards. But that requires
quality guests, and well to a large extent
you don't get to pick your relatives or
your neighbors. Yah, there is some
control there you can reject a woman
because her side of the family is
particularly awful but who does that and
who finds a good woman who doesn't have at
least some nuts in her family and how can
we then keep from getting rejected for our
own nutty relatives? And there is some
choice in where we live and thus our
neighbors but that is mostly an artificial
feeling of control rather then real
control over that. You are correct though
that more distance is a thought worth
considering!

@RT58

I find your thoughts about Christmas
interesting. I have partially solved the
issues with Thanksgiving by going heavy on
the origins. BEFORE we eat, as in like an
hour before, I have made it a mandatory
tradition in our house that we always
start with a deep slow sollum reading of
Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving Day
proclamation during the darkest time of
the Terrible War Between Brothers.
Something that has deep meaning but makes
most modern folks especially the more
scummy ones incredibly uncomfortable (look
it up) followed by going around the table
taking turns with everyone explaining
something they are thankful for from their
heart. After several times around the
table with that then we go around the
table again with everyone expected in turn
to make a Thanksgiving prayer or devotion
to a higher power. I'm not judgemental or
picky, we have had some guests address
their Thanksgiving prayer to "Mother
Nature" or "The Great Spirit" or something
else. I'm not even an organized religion
believer myself. But it gets things in
the right mood and pays proper meaning to
the true meaning that the Thanksgiving
Holiday is supposed to stand for. Plus,
it has made some of the more troublesome
guests so uncomfortable that they either
left on the spot or never showed up for
that particular holiday at our place
again.

Might have to do some thinking on this,
not as easily applied to Christmas but
might be something that can be done along
such lines. New Years? Probably a lost
cause on that one.

I thought I was the only one. It's good to know I'm (remotely) among friends.

Christmas this year was spent in a hotel room (not the first time); just the wife and I.
