Internet has been down from hurricane damage but is partially working now. Don't know for how long.

Friday before Christmas this guy walked out into my clear cut timber following a doe. He met a 120gr. Ballistic Tip from my Savage Axis with E.R.Shaw barrel.

The bullet went in the rear of the right shoulder and exited behind the left shoulder leaving a quarter size exit. Perfect bullet performance. The buck dropped where he stood.

I had him processed into smoked link sausage and it is very tasty.

Nice.

I like the sausage myself. I usually make about 2/3 into summer sausage. The rest is choice steaks and some jerky for my children and their spouses.

I just got back from a whirl wind trip to the Camp Lejeune area of coastal N.C. (long story). I grew up in similar surroundings before I was as acutely aware of things like deer much.

Noticed a LOT of road kills, like the Midwest has in November. Makes me wonder with the later Winter, if the deep south is enjoying the height of the rut now?

By the way, I wouldn't trade one square foot of Kansas for that whole state, hope nobody takes that personal, but I couldn't get back here fast enough.

Guy,

The rifle is a Savage Axis that came chambered in .308
Winny. I replaced the factory barrel with an E.R.Shaw
barrel in .260 Remington.
I cut the barrel to 20" for easier handling in a stand.
Velocity with the 120g BTip runs around 2,700 fps.

I really love the 6.5mm calibers for whitetail and similar game. They don't usually take very many steps after being hit in a vital area with those long for caliber bullets.

Last Monday, the last day of the year, my son was waiting when this guy walked in from behind the stand. Jason was using his AR chambered in 6.8 SPC loaded with a 110gr. Nosler Accubond over a healthy dose of AA2200.

This bullet performed well and gave a single exit wound. The buck ran for about 15yds. and went down.
