Glen Fryxell has written another great article this time on the evolution of The .44 SWC. Well worth reading even if you don't shoot a 44.

As usual Glen's articles leave me drooling and wishing I had some of these molds. Great article and a ton of info. Now to go and pick up a .44............but not a Smith.

Just finished reading it over for the first time. Great article! Great research and historical perspective. Where does he get the time? I will probably read it again sometime soon, too much info to digest all at once. Keep them coming Glen.

It is a good article.
I just found out what mould my 1000+ swc's came from; G. Bowsers Ideal 429360.
Glen is right, the design is superbly crappy. It'll shoot 6" @25m all damn day in all my .44's.
I had to find a home for all this crap and did I; a fat dose of 2400 gets these things into a consistant 1.5" @25m if I do my end.
I don't want to digress any further from the topic. Ya'all e me if you need some details.

Thanks John, very interesting article...and timely too...just spend Saturday casting up two different .44 SWC from moulds I borrowed from a friend...Lyman #429244 (255 grains) and RCBS 44-240 SWC (240grains)...these are both gas checked versions. I've shot the Lyman's for awhile now and they've proved very accurate in RH and my new 629. The RCBS bullets I've never tried before, but hope to in the next week or so. Thanks again for the history lesson!
